Engineered hardwood has a top layer of real wood bonded to a cross-layered core. That construction makes it far more stable than solid wood when humidity changes, so it can be glued or floated over concrete slabs where solid hardwood usually isn’t recommended.
Quality engineered floors with a thick wear layer can be refinished at least once, and they’re often the best way to get a wide, European-style plank.
